My corns escaped

Well this might be a long post, but here goes.

Was out last night helping sister-in-law with some stuff. Came home quite late and went straight to bed, without doing my normal check on the corns.

Got up this morning and had to spot clean the viv and found my snakes missing.

Tried not to panic too much and thought about where they might be. Karen and the kids were a bit more nervous than me.

So we search all the obvious places in the room, under the cupboards, behind the units etc etc. Knew the snakes were around because one of them had left us a pressie on the carpet.

After about 30 minutes of searching Karen found Ricky in the bottom of the filing cabinet which is under the viv.

Trawled around upstairs and downstairs for the next 30 minutes with no joy trying to find Ossie (the bigger of the two). My daughter and her boyfriend arrived to assist in the searching.

Anyway another 15 minutes passed, the bed was pulled apart in our room, the kitchen units were searched, all possible escape holes were investigated. We knew he couldn't get in to 4 of the rooms upstairs as the doors were closed.

Anyway, Chris my daughters boyfriend did another check of the bathroom and looked in the one place I would never have thought of looking, in the toilet cistern. Well I was extremely surprised that he found Ossie in the cistern. Don't know how long he had been there but he had his head above the water and was ok apart from being a bit cold.

The funny thing is I have no idea how long he was there, but it must have been a good while, but in the time since we all got up the toilet had been flushed at least 4 times.

Boy was I relieved when I got him out of the cistern. I have checked on him loads of times today and he seems to be none the worse for his adventure.

They are both due to feed tomorrow so I'll see how that goes.

It turns out that my son had got the snakes out last night whilst we were out but hadn't shut the viv properly when he put them away.

Phew anyway, take my advice, make sure you check the viv is closed every time you or your family and/or friends get your snakes out.

I'm mighty relieved that they were both found so quickly, if from not very obvious places.

Simon biggrin

Omg Simon

I so know what that is like, panic buttons are pressed and its all hands on deck to find them.  I have all my female adult corns intogether, although with any viv, I use the rubber wedges that way once the glass doors are shut two wedges go in - top and bottom, and its easier to do a quick look at all the wedges from a distance, they are cheap from a hardware store (3 for 60p), rather than paying pounds for them through reptile places.

So glad you found them, what a relief!!biggrin

Have fun.......................Lindasmile

Ive been in a situation like that before simon but it wasnt half as bad as thats sounds it was only 1 of them that escaped but she only managed to get as far as under my bed which is next to my viv lol. She didnt travel to far as she had just eaten i obviously didnt shut the doors properly after i fed them.

well im glad you found them both in the end! i bet you was relieved when you did because i sure was lol i had never paniced so much in my life lol.

Panic lol! erm Geroge i think that must have been the second time she escaped. Yes she did it twice. 1st time George was at the shop - god did i panic. She was in the smaller viv at the time and george has friend over. Think he did the same thing - not closing the lid properly the night before. YES PANIC! OMG lost georges snake! She was under the bed ( found that out after we had had every draw out etc etc) She had the cheek to look at me as if to say " yer wots ur problem" lol!

Once they went in the bigger viv we got our old lock out and made sure the viv was locked.

Corns are notorious for trying to escape!!!!!!!!!!!

So Well done Simon and co for finding them - poor James! he must have been in a right state worrying about them!

So guys a warning
MAKE SURE DOORS/LIDS ARE CLOSED SECURLY !!!!!!!!!!!!
