I have an Autistic son who attends Bexley college. Last year we were asked to take some reptiels in to show the kids ( after they had seen them in the back of my car).
So yesterday me George ( my youngest) and Tony from the shop took in some reps for all the kids to see. Most of them were 16+ and all had some sort of special need wether it be mental, physical, or behavioural.
Well they all loved it. It gave them something to focus on and was good for thier enrichment!
Even the "BIG I am" kids who are better than anyone else and who started off being scared loved them. It was such a great fantastic day and a pleasure to work with these kids ( that some would call delinquant)
Soem of the kids had never seen reptiles, and others had just heard that they were nasty! Well we soon put a stop to that!
We took in a burm about a yr old, a royal, one of my corns, a tortoise, Beardie and a Cham and a chilli rose! Some were even brave enough to hold the Chiili!
Those that were scared to begin with actually hell the albino burm and said how nice he was (well of course) Even the staff that were scared actually "touched" the reps. I think both Tony and George enjoyed the day! I know i certainly did!
These kids were actually interested in the reps and were asking some questions. So it showed that they CAN listen and LEARN if they want to!
Unfortunalty we were not allowed to take pictures but the teachers did. OF course i took the liberty or taking in some of he leaflets form the shop lol! so if they are interested they know where to come!
Something i would recommend!!!!!!! A day to remember! SO if anyone locally is interested in the reps coming into thier kids schools contact your school and ask them to contact Tony for details and i will gladly accompany him!
